Job Description:

RMIT University, Deakin University, the University of the South Pacific in Fiji and Oxfam Australia are undertaking the second tranche of research as part of a three year study in Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands. The study focuses on the vulnerability and resilience of Pacific households to economic shocks, while also examining the impact of the recent

food, fuel and economic crises on Pacific households. The project will specifically focus on the plight of both women and youth. The three questions that the research will consider are: What has been the impact of the recent food, fuel and economic shocks on peoples’ lives in Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands? In these contexts, why are certain people

and households more vulnerable or resilient to these global economic shocks? What policies and strategies most effectively reduce vulnerability or increase the resilience of people to global economic shocks in these contexts?

This research will assist in Oxfam’s program design as well as provide the policymakers and aid donors with crucial information to help target their interventions and inform future economic development and social protection policies and programs.

Quantitative and qualitative techniques will be used to answer the research questions. 500 households in total will be surveyed in urban, rural and remote locations in both the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu using Android phone technology.
