Job Description:

The Vanuatu Meteorological and Geo-hazard Department (VMGD) and National Diaster Management Office (NDMO) have secured funding from the World Bank for two large-scale national adaptation and disaster risk reduction projects designed to address Vanuatu's immediate climate change adaptation needs and mitigate natural disaster risks.

The main task of the Gis Specialist is to support strengthening capacity of the IRCCNH project components and their respective implementing Agencies (IA) to produce maps supporting projects activities and project developments. The consulatnt will be responsible for providing advice on the framework for collecting, managing and disseminating existing spatial data, also for structuring

and training on geo-referencing of the data; developing the GIS database and standard operation procedures. The consultant will also be responsible for providing short training on geo-referencing of the data; developing the GIS database and standard operation procedures. them to use, maintain and update the database.



The GIS Specialist will be contracted for 40 days, and be based in the VMGD Project Management Unit.

Required Qualifications:

Criteria:

- A post graduate degree in GIS, mapping or related discipline;

- Minimum 10 year experience in information and data management, specifically in spatial database/GIS, preferably in Vanuatu.

- Experience with governmrnt institutions, preferably with the Mapping Unit of the Lands Department;

- Proven ability to mentor and train staff in all aspects of database and goegraphic information systems, and develop multi-sector capacity building planning and implementation programs;

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including demonstrated experience in workshop facilitation planning; and

- Ability to link a multi-platform database with multi agencies;
