Job Description:

Accountability and working relationships: The Architect/ Building Technician is accountable to the VESP Secretariat Manager. On a day to day basis the technician will work under the supervision of the VESP School Infrastructure Adviser to the Principal Architect in the Ministry of Education Facilities Unit.

Overview

The Architect / Building Technician will be engaged to assist the Facilities Unit of the Ministry of Education to conduct an assets survey of selected primary schools in Vanuatu. Working hours will be 40 hours / week, office hours to be agreed. Travel to other islands for survey work or training purposes will be required occasionally and may involve flexible working hours.

Job Specification / Responsibilities

The duties of the Architect/Building Technician will be as follows: Assist with design of Primary school buildings. Prepare detail drawings of Primary school buildings. Prepare Bill of Quantities for Primary school buildings. Prepare costs for typical Primary school buildings. Prepare site plans of typical Primary schools. Conduct measured Architectural surveys of Primary schools. Assist the project surveyors to document Primary school survey data for entry into VEMIS. Assist the Provincial Maintenance Officers to review Primary school surveys, collate the information and enter data collected into the VEMIS system at provincial level. Assist the Provincial Maintenance Officers on any asset management issues. Assist with capacity building and skills development of the Provincial Maintenance Officers. Any other duties relevant to the regular advancement of the project works.

Criteria: 

Qualifications and Experience

• University Degree/Diploma in Architecture/ Building Construction or a lower degree/diploma in a similar field.
• Minimum of 2 years professional experience for University degree holders or 10 years for lower degrees/diplomas in a similar field.
• In the absence of any formal qualifications consideration may be given to any candidates whose work experience is relevant to or matches the list of duties described above.
