Job Description:
  • Oversees the work of the banquet kitchen staff
  • Assists with training of newly hired kitchen staff
  • Makes sure adequate numbers of kitchen staff are scheduled to properly handle each banquet
  • Participates in employee evaluations and necessary disciplinary actions
  • Can create food cost menus based on client specifications and contracts
  • Places orders for recipe ingredients including meats, fresh fruits and produce, herbs, spices and other supplies
  • Supervises junior cooks and other members of the kitchen staff
  • Monitors the quality of the banquet meal during the event
  • Looks for ways to save the facility money while still providing top quality products and services for clients
  • Possesses the ability to handle any menu ranging from breakfast buffets to corporate lunch meetings with sandwiches to formal dinners with multi-course meals that are individually plated.

  • Must be willing to begin work some days in the early morning hours and other times remain at work late into the night depending on the size and time of a particular banquet
  • Must be able to work weekends and holidays as these are common times for banquets
  • Must be able to handle heavy lifting, long hours of standing and other taxing physical activities
  • Be prepared to quickly deal with injuries like cuts and burns that can result in busy kitchens even when safety guidelines are strictly observed.

    Labour Mobility Assistance Program
    Supporting the Seasonal Worker Programme

    Job Description:
    The Australian Labour Mobility Assistance Program (LMAP), managed by Cardno, provides capacity-building support to the Employment Services Unit (ESU) within the Department of Labour and Employment Services to strengthen their ability to support Vanuatu’s participation in the Australian Seasonal Worker Programme (SWP).

    LMAP is seeking to engage a Training Officer to manage and facilitate the required training for workers who are participating in the Seasonal Worker Programme.

    The focus of your role will be to facilitate SWP training programs, including pre-departure briefings, team leader and re-integration workshops.

    You will be responsible for working with ESU staff and registered agents to ensure all seasonal workers scheduled to depart for Australia attend a pre-departure briefing, develop and deliver training programs to prepare workers for the SWP, as well as maintaining records of all trained workers and conducting evaluations/reports on all training programs.

    The position will be contracted by Cardno as a full-time contractor until January 2018, and if probationary period requirements are met, the Training Officer will then continue working for the Department of Labour and Employment Services in a full-time capacity.
