Three Community Engagement Officers - Efate, Santo and Ambae

SCA in Vanuatu Program aims to achieve positive outcomes for vulnerable children and young people in the areas of health and well-being, child rights and child protection. We advocate on behalf of children and promote the rights of the child.

Key Purpose of these position;

The overall goal of the Save the Children Vanuatu “Healthy Babies, Healthy Teens” (HBHT) project is to improve Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (RMNCH) in target areas through the following strategies:

• Improve RMNCH knowledge, attitudes and practices among mothers and community members

• Increase access to, and quality of RMNCH services at health facilities for pregnant women, mothers and children

• Improve nutrition of pregnant mothers and children 0-2 years of age

• Investigate and document the issue of teenage pregnancy.



The key roles of the Community Engagement Officers will be to:

• Follow up after health trainings; provide ongoing mentoring and coaching to community groups to ensure positive RMNCH and nutrition behaviours.

• Mobilise communities for health facility outreach and other community level events.

• Build linkages with communities to ensure greater involvement of teenage mothers in community activities.

• Liaise with multiple community stakeholders and groups to plan and conduct awareness sessions on RMNCH during provincial and national events.

Criteria:

• Good verbal and written communication skills in both Bislama and English.

• Demonstrated knowledge and practical skills in community level mobilization and events Ability to communicate sensitive health messages surrounding Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health.

• Willing and able to travel to and work in remote communities, including overnight.

• Experience in conducting health promotion activities.

• Knowledge of Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health an advantage.

• Completed High School Level 12.

• Diploma in Community Services an advantage.
